Wedding || Sarees

One of the most sensual attires of a woman in India is undoubtedly the sari. It is a long unstitched piece of cloth, usually 6 yards long that is draped in a set pattern. It accentuates the curves of a woman and the mid-riff is usually exposed. However, the way of draping a sari may differ from place to place. The way it is draped in the north may be slightly different from how it is draped in the south. It is available in a plethora of fibers, designs and colors. The sari is usually worn with a blouse that covers the upper part of the body and underneath it is the petticoat, which helps to tuck in the pleats of the sari to hold it in place.

The history and origin of sari seems to date back to the period of the establishment of civilization. Evidence states that women in the Indus Valley civilization used to cover themselves with a long piece of cloth, draped like a trouser. However, the word ‘sari’ originated from the Prakrit word ‘sattika’, which is mentioned in the early Buddhist literature. The word got shortened and was called sati, which further evolved into sari.

A statue recovered from the Indus Valley Civilization depicts a female priest wearing a cloth draped like a sari. The sari used to be draped in a way so that it divides the two legs and forms a trouser like attire. This was basically done to aid the temple dancers in their movements and also cover to their modesty. It is believed that the ‘dhoti’, which is the oldest Indian garment that was draped, is the foundation behind the sari. Till the 14th century, the dhoti was worn by both men
and women.

The early statues of Goddesses show that the sari was draped in a sensual manner, like a ‘fishtail’, which was tied at the waist, covered up the legs and came in front of the legs like a decorative drape. During that era, the upper part of the body was either partially covered or was left bare. Down south in the state of Kerala, one can still see people wearing the traditional sari, which is a two piece garment, consisting of a lungi and a shawl. With the coming of the Muslims, the ghagra or the petticoat was discovered and clothes were stitched. Before that, Hindus believed piercing clothes with needles was impure.

The blouse came into existence with the Muslims and also the British. Since then, sari has come of age and now many new styles are being experimented with. But the main aspects of the sari like the blouse and the petticoat have been carried over in the modern times. Thus, sari is the perfect garment to enhance the beautiful curves of the Indian woman and has done so since times immemorial.

Diesel hosted their runway show

Photobucket

Last week, Diesel hosted their runway show, which kicked off the Mercedes-Benz Swim Week 2011 in Miami Beach, FL at the Raleigh Hotel. Diesel also held a luxe pool after-party, sponsored by Skyy Vodka for the runway event. The most exciting part of the whole event though, was when Kristin Cavallari strutted her rockin’ bod on the runway wearing a bathing suit made out of glass. The one-piece, one-shouldered bathing suit was cobalt blue and featured actual blue shards of glass, inspired by Skyy Vodka. The Hills star told People Magazine that “this is the first time I have ever walked a runway in a bathing suit, the glass sort of cut into my skin, and I was really nervous.”
The star is now engaged to Chicago Bears player, Jay Cutler, and is in the midst of planning her wedding. But despite all of that, she was excited to walk the catwalk and is making the time to work on her fabulous body. After the show, the celeb tweeted, “It went well! I was so nervous but its done!!! Party time!”

The swimwear show also featured other bikinis for their new swimwear collection, and also trunks for the guys. There were many printed bikinis and stylish one-piece bathing suits, perfect for the stylish beach women

Grils with black and white

Photobucket

One of the freshest looks for this spring is the pairing of black and white, and there’s no better way to do that than by pairing the classic white button-up with a sexy pair of black shorts. Celebs like Alexa Chung, The City’s Olivia Palmero, Gwyneth Paltrow and British model Daisy Lowe have all been seen rocking this trend on the red carpet .

Palmero wore this trend in a bold and sexy way, with sequined shorts, sky-high black studded heels and a sleek, pulled back hair style. Olivia fashioned the perfect New York look by wearing the style in a sleek and chic way, with just enough glam to make the look turn heads. Palmero accompanied the look with a large and classicly cut handbag to complete the sophistication of her style.

Palrow’s approach to this style was a more laid-back, California type of sex appeal. The star wore her top loosely unbuttoned, wore her hair down, and accompanied the style with a long silver charm necklace, which all gave the traditionally conservative color combination a more bohemian vibe. Paltrow then dialed up the sex appeal by wearing black pumps and holding a hot silver clutch.

Lowe wore this style in a way all her own by pairing the look with unique everyday pieces. Instead of wearing the color combo conservatively, Lowe paired standout accessories with the style to make her own version of the fashion. Lowe paired the shorts with black tights and mid-calf black lace-up boots for a more alternative version of the style. Lowe also wore a brown belt with a bold buck that stood-out against the rest of her outfit.
